Attention Perception and Discrimination

The program allows you to setup either a similarity paradigm or an oddity paradigm. In the similarity paradigm, a target picture is presented along with four other pictures. The user must find the picture from the group of four pictures that matches the target picture. In the oddity paradigm, five pictures are presented. One of the pictures does not match the other four. Users must find the picture that does not belong. Level: Mid to High

Word Memory and Discrimination

Word Memory and Discrimination requires users to remember a list of words and be able to discriminate the meaning between words in the list. Users hear a list of words and are then asked a question about one of the words, e.g. Which one is not an animal? You can display the list of words on the screen or as a more difficult option, you can require the user to type the correct answer without ever seeing the list. Level: Mid-High

A description of one of four geometric forms is provided using the attributes of size, color, and shape, e.g. large, yellow, square. The user must identify the geometric form that fits the description.Four levels of lessons at varying degrees of difficulty are included. Problems at each level are generated randomly and continue until the user ends the program. Level: Mid to High

Categories

A word is presented and the user is asked to respond within a certain time if and only if that word is a member of a specific category. That means that sometimes the correct response is to click a button and other times the correct response is not to respond at all. Up to 12 different categories can be specified and the time within which the user must respond can also be set. Reward is both visual and auditory and responses are made by clicking the mouse or pressing the Enter key. The program includes on-screen help. The program records performance and prints performance reports, including user response times. Level: Mid to High

Compensatory Memory Strategies Chunking

This program is based on the premise that memory of large bodies of information is facilitated by dividing the information into smaller, related chunks of information. The components of a chunk of information can be related by category, color, size texture, function, definition, or any other meaningful attribute. This program helps users become skilled at searching for meaningful groups of words within a list thereby facilitating memory of those lists. Level: Mid to High

Hierarchical Attention Training

Description: Forty-eight combinations of attention activities at varying degrees of difficulty are included in the program. A target stimulus is first identified. Then a series of stimuli are displayed for short periods of time. The user is instructed to watch or listen for the target stimulus and respond only when it appears. When other stimuli appear, the user makes no response. This form of treatment paradigm where not responding is sometimes the correct response, facilitates attending skills and helps to curb impulsive or preservative behavior. There are 4 attention conditions. Level: Mid to High

Listening Skills

A random selection of 1 to 5 part, verbal instructions is presented that the user must follow. The instructions consist of assigning colors to specific geometric forms displayed on the screen. Users first select the appropriate color and then assign it to a geometric form by pointing to the form and clicking the mouse button. If the response is correct, a positive verbal reinforcement is presented. If the response is incorrect, the user is given a second try. After a second incorrect response, the correct answer is displayed. Level: Mid to High

Memory for Animated Sequences

Users watch an animated sequence of events lasting between a few seconds and a minute. They must then select a statement that describes what they just observed or as a more difficult option select a statement that does not describe what they just observed. The animated sequences are presented in random order and the statements describing the animated events are taken from a large pool of stimuli. Thus, every time one of the 40 animated sequences is presented, clients will have to view what they saw in a different way than they did the previous time. Level: Mid to High

Memory for Directions

Either written or spoken directions are given requesting the user to move small pictures to special locations on the screen. The pictures are moved with a mouse. If a picture is moved to the correct screen location, a positive reinforcement is provided. Otherwise, the instruction is given again and the user is provided a second chance. Level: Mid to High

Perception of Sounds

The program contains two different lessons: 1) Remembering Sounds and 2) Identifying Sounds. In the first lesson, between 2 and 6 different environmental sounds are presented as sounds to be remembered. Next, another environmental sound is presented and the user must determine whether this environmental sound was in the list of sounds to be remembered. In the second lesson, an environmental sound is presented and then a list of possible descriptions is displayed. The user must determine which description best fits the sound presented. The program can be configured to display literal or inferential descriptions. Literal descriptions are concrete names for the sound like a laughing sound made by a child. Inferential descriptions require that the user have an understanding of what the sound means like a happy child. Level: Mid to High

Remembering Names

This program provides an integrated approach to helping people remember names. The procedures included in the program are reported to be effective by a variety of memory and cognition experts. The technique used is to visualize an exaggerated facial feature, develop a memory peg, and associate the two. The program allows you to develop your own inventory of memory pegs that will be available to you whenever you meet someone as well as a procedure for learning your memory pegs. In addition, you can practice inventing memory pegs, practice using the procedure to learn names, and testing yourself as you develop your skill. Level: High

Visual and Auditory Memory Span was designed to test and exercise memory abilities. A list of between 1 and 9 items is presented and the user must recall the entire list in the correct order. Stimuli can be either letters or numbers and can be presented either visually or auditorily. Other features include automatic recording of performance and the ability to control the time visually presented stimuli are displayed. Level: Mid-High

Visual Attention Training

Visual Attention and Tracking was designed to provide support for individuals with attention deficits. Three types of visual attention training are provided representing varying degrees of difficulty. The attention conditions from simplest to most difficult are: Focused Attention, Selective Attention, and Alternating Attention. Focused Attention requires watching for one event to occur and responding only when it does. Selective Attention is similar to Focused Attention except that an element of visual distraction is added. Alternating Attention requires attending to one stimulus for a period of time and then switching attention to another stimulus. The program is very easy to use and provided an interesting challenge. Visual Auditory and Grammatical Attention

There are lessons for visual, auditory, and grammatical processing. In each , a simple concept is presented with competing stimuli as a distraction.1.Competing Visual Stimuli: When you hear the word orange, click orange even though the letters may be blue. 2.Competing Auditory Stimuli: A statement is made where two similar sentences are spoken at exactly the same time. Then a question is asked 3 . Competing Grammatical Stimuli: Two streams of characters are presented. One contains random letters and the other is a real phrase with no spaces between words. The user determines which is the grammatically correct phrase. Level: Mid-High
